Each Canada province and territory governments are responsible for their own education system. There is little difference between the provinces, except Quebec which has a different educational system, which consists of primaire écoles, École secondaire, and College d'enseignement general et Professionel (CEGEP). The educational system described in this page is a Canada public education system and not the Quebec education system. Please visit the Department of Education Canada each province for further information.


School of Education (Secondary Education) Canada in the Canada Education System

From Grade 9 to 12, usually students aged 14/15 year to 17/18 year.
After graduating from Grade 12, students will earn a high school diploma (high school diploma).
Canada Post Secondary Education in the Canada Education System

Colleges, institutions and non-degree educational institutions other Canada offers certificate and diploma programs in various fields of semi-professional and technical fields as diverse, while the university offers programs S1 and university colleges usually offer S1, diplomas and certificates. Even so, some schools also offer programs S1 and some universities offer certificate and diploma programs.

Diploma and Certificate in the Canada Education System 

Available at colleges, community colleges, technical and vocational institutions.
Students must have graduated from high school.
Duration of the program is generally 1-3 years.
1-year program will receive a certificate. If you take additional courses, students will get a certificate of advanced (advanced certificates).
University transfer programs are also offered in a particular college.

S1 degree in the Canada Education System

Offered at universities, university colleges and institutes.
Students must have graduated high school.
S1 program generally lasts for 3-4 years, depending on each province and whether the courses taken are general or specific program.
Diploma and certificate programs are also offered at several institutes.
S1 Honours degree is generally awarded to majors or academic achievement is higher.
Canada Graduate Degree

S2 title in the Canada Education System

Program length is generally 2 years.
Students must have earned a S1 or S1 Honours.
One of the conditions of acceptance for the MBA program is that students must pass the GMAT ® exam and have relevant work experience.
Students who take Science majors must pass the GRE exam.

S3 title in the Canada Education System

Duration of the program generally is a minimum of 3 years.
Students should already have a degree S2.
One of the conditions of acceptance for the MBA program is that students must pass the GMAT ® exam, and have relevant work experience.
Students who take Science majors must pass the GRE exam.

International Students in the Canada Education System

International students must meet the minimum TOEFL ® or IELTS as proof of English proficiency for admission to Canada universities. International students should be able to demonstrate that the quality of education students' home countries is at least equivalent to the Canada education. Students who wish to learn more than 6 months in Canada must make a license application to learn Canada (Study Permit).
